Geek Look Book: Star Wars pt 2

So here we go, the second part of my subtle Star Wars Look Book and this one is all for the girls (if you missed it find the gents version here)

Now Star Wars is know for having as many dedicated female fans as there is male out there and while for a long time finding a way to fuel our daily fashion geek needs seemed a hefty task of altering men’s shirts or making our own necklaces but worry not, the industry now has us covered so here we are, a look at some of my favourite subtle everyday star wars accessories to spruce up your intergalactic meetings.

Now if your like me and you like your accessories to match then this Death Star jewellery set from Think Geek is ideal, the set consists of earring, a ring and a necklace and you can purchase each piece separately for $29.99.

These stainless steel necklaces are also from Think Geek, with 4 designs to choose from there is something for everyone, or just several days of the week in your a tad indecisive, prices start at $29.99.

Now we have the necklaces, we need some earrings and there are plenty to choose from, for really reasonable prices. Now I couldn’t resist these little beauties when I saw them on Etsy, from PIXELOSIS for the obscenely reasonable price of £4 you too can own your very own set of light saber earrings!

Next up, something a little more sinister, but no less awesome is this set of Death Star earrings from Sudlow for £33, they also have a host of other Star Wars designs and goodies!

That’s no moon…

So we have neck and ears covered, what about wrists? Now these two choices were easy, one for its diversity and the other for its simplicity. Think Geek do a range of Pandora style geeky charms and have a pretty extensive Star Wars Selection starting from $9.99 like this slightly adorable Darth Vader Charm.hrot_star_wars_darth_vader_charm But if you prefer something more to the point and a little less likely to attract attention in your local Cantina then this £18 hand stamped ‘May the force be with you’ bracelet from abellagift will probably be more your thing.il_fullxfull.597957083_ow76

Sometimes simple and elegant is the way to go.

Now while the weather here in the UK hasn’t reached Hoth like proportions just yet, it can still get a bit nippy outside and these two scarves from Think Geek are perfect for just that. If your a fan of infinity scarves (I must confess I always just get caught up in them) then this snazzy black and white logo scarf for $34.99 is ideal, its also a think geek exclusive. But, if like me you prefer the old school style then this Darth Vader design for $24.99 is exactly the scarf your looking for.

Now I realise this next item isn’t strictly a fashion accessories, more of an eating utensil actually but honestly who hasnt used normal everyday items to hold their hair in place? What? Just me? Eep well I still stand by these, pop your hair up in a bun, slide these light sabers in and Bam! Instant geek chic, affordable too at $11 from J-list

Oh and did I mention that they light up too? Extra nerd points for that!

Ok I know this last item is shoes but just look at them! I don’t even care that they are $322.99, these Light up Skywalker heels from Think Geek and made by Irregular Choice are simply out of this world (yeah I can’t believe I went there either).

So I hope these little posts helped with updating your geeky attire and I will be doing a new Geek Look Book soon!

Tis the season…

Now its December and that means there is only one thing on everyone’s minds, that right, release day! Tomorrow (17/12/15) marks a day that many have been waiting their whole lives for, the internet has been lit up for months, profile pictures are being altered as I type this and the R2-D2 leggings are out in force (see what I did there?)

vvvvvuuwwwooommmmm….what I like the noise….

Star Wars is finally upon us. Now I have a confession, I’ve never been able to watch the original trilogy and actually stay awake, yes I know, I know, hand in my geek card at the front door….but hear me out, just because I could never bring myself to say I’m a fan (platitudes do nothing for a franchise or its fan base and I am not the kind of girl who is going to fawn over something just because its the “in thing”) that does not mean that I cant appreciate Star Wars in other ways. I completely acknowledge that as a cinematic piece Star Wars was ground breaking for its time and may yet prove to be so again when it spreads across the world in its full glory tomorrow. The film score is actually one of my favourites, I find the music beautiful and compelling, I think most would agree it is instantly recognisable in our culture today, even if they couldn’t tell you where they know it from. The characters are iconic and are only becoming more so, while the concept art is nothing short of breath taking. Star wars is a cult classic and even though I can’t honestly say I enjoy the films, it is easy for me to see why.

Droid BB-8 and fans at the world premiere.

But on top of all this there is a even bigger reason why I appreciate this much loved franchise and that, in short, is the fans. Yes I have had my fair share of good-natured arguments (I’m a huge LOTR fan, trust me CLERKS 2 has happened, just with less vomit and more storming to the bar for another drink) I have even met some total idiots over it, but as a general rule Star Wars fans are a fantastic group of people because its a franchise that has touched so many, from the geekiest of us who can read Aurebesh to the ‘everyday’ man who just likes to chill with a pizza and watch it when it comes on TV. That guy you walked past in the bank yesterday, he will be in the cinema opening night because he remembers how much he loved it as a kid or that woman in Tesco buying bacon, she’s going to meet up with friends she hasn’t seen in years because of it.

Star Wars is a great thing because it feeds the imagination, it has created writers, artists, directors, musicians (such as ThePianoGuys & Player Piano) and laid the ground work for new ways of thinking. It has created bonds between friends that has lasted decades and will create new ones tomorrow. It has brought families closer together and has, and continues to ignite such a wondrous excitement in all generations.

This is what makes Star Wars such a powerful thing and why, even though I’m not a fan, I love it so much.
